If that is a fairly large city the waitlist is 5 years or more. It could be less than 5. The only way to know is ask the Section 8 case worker at Housing.

The length of time changes constantly depending on the number of people who are waiting and the funds available (these funds come from the tax payers) It also depends on your category of eligibility. In other words, if you are elderly or handicapped you would be placed in a higher category and not have to wait as long as a younger able bodied person. The only way to know for sure is to check with your local housing authority, but assume it will be many months if not years.
