How much does it cost to heat a small 1br apartment in albany ny (upstate) and hot water.?
i am not sure of the exact apartment because i am still searching. I would like an estimate to use so that i can properly compare the price of apartments that include heat to those that do not. Is there a large margin for gas or electric heat? All the apartments ilok at are small and under 500 sqft. they are mostly older buildings too. One apartment i am looking at and i am very interested in has electric heat and hot water. How much would this cost? IK it cost about $50 a motnh to run a 1000watt space heater 24 7 i could just do that. I do not mind a 65F degree day temp and lower at night. Basic general heat and hot water estimates are appreciated for gas and electric. Or any info you can give me. It is all greatly appreciated. I am a novice at this because my current apartment includes heat and hot water.Thank you John...yes...it has windows...national grid charges $15 a month for gas and $20 a month for electric for delivery. How much does it cost to heat a basement apartment in albany (upstate ny) with electric?
the apartment is half underground half above. It is a 2br with a large living room kitchen dining room. I would probably only heat the living room during the day and then the bedroom at night. Each room has its own thermostat and adjustable temp. so i can have diff rooms blocked off. I live by myself so i will probably close broom doors during the day and night only heat 1bedroom. I don't mind wearing a sweater or having big blankets, so i could run a little cold too. The bedrooms are each about 10x9 and the big living room kitchen dining room is about 20x12. entire apartment is around 500sq ft. Could i dod this for $100 a month? again, electric baseboard heating. Thick curtains on all 4 windowsthank yousorry i meant $135 for the winter months. My current electric bill is $35 so $100 for electric to be used for heat. The $100 is actually a 6 month average. I would be happy spending $600 a year in electric to heat my apartment. I probably will not cool it, right now i am on the 3rd floor and i just use fans, its hot but i dont mind it. I live in rome, ny. The people upstairs and downstairs moved out we are in the middle apartment . Now it's freezing in winter, and no matter how hard I push my heater, the floors are freezing and so is our apartment. I pay all of the utilities, so I want to go talk to them because there is no heat on in those apartments. Is there a law that I can mention when I talk to them to get them to fix this problem? Thanks your saying, they don't even have to keep the supply heat on? That seems unfair. I'm a 27 year old female looking to POSSIBLY purchase a house with my 27 year old boyfriend we've been together for over 9 years, so don't give me the " don't buy a house with a boyfriend" speech, we need a place to live before we get married . We're both working, though neither have a " career" yet. We work in a hospital, myself as a records analyst and him as a PCT. Our combined income is low, about $50,000 yr. We've been looking at houses that are VERY cheap that we can fix up nothing with foundation problems or anything serious like that, but we both have a LOT of carpentry masonry electrical plumbing experience within our families and would be able to get a lot of help fixing things .Right now, we live rent free in the basement of his parents' house. We moved back home after college before we could secure jobs in the unstable market. But as you can imagine, it's driving us both insane. We need our own place. Over that time, we've put about $10,000 into savings so we could put a down payment on a house one day.The one house we're looking at right now is listed at $25,900, is almost 1500sq ft and has over 0.7 acres of land. I know it doesn't have a furnace, but I'm not sure what else is wrong with it. With taxes and everything, it would be a payment of around $500 month less than rent if we were to get an apartment . How would it be any different than a couple who has been together for 1 year and are already married buying a house? Just because they have papers saying they're married? They'd have to go through the same litigation to divide wealth after a divorce.Geeze, I had higher hopes for getting my question answered. I'm not asking if I should buy a house with my boyfriend, I'm going to do it eventually anyways. I was asking if a deal like this came up would you take it if you were in my place? So what, it needs a $5000 furnace... IT'S A $26,000 HOUSE FOR GOODNESS SAKE I think I could manage to pay for a damn furnace.
